Deep within Canyonlands National Park, raft on rivers, passing Anasazi ruins on the Colorado River through the whitewater of Cataract Canyon. Explore Pueblo ruins, and learn the meaning behind ancient petroglyphs with your expert guide. At the end of your daily adventures, retire to your oversized tent for a restful, comfortable night's sleep.

Arrival and departure transfers are not included on this program. Government taxes and fees will apply.

Day 1: Moab, Utah:

Meet your guides and fellow travellers today at your downtown Moab hotel and attend a pre-trip briefing that includes instructions for packing your “dry bags,” followed by a festive welcome dinner.

Meals Served: D

Day 2: Moab/Colorado River:

Drive to a section of the Colorado River that is broad and quiet for your launch. Float past towering red cliffs that climb to a height of 2,000 feet and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Stop to hike to a petrified forest after lunch and pass Dead Horse Point State Park later in the day. Your camp is situated on a sandy beach and includes a riverside lounge, restaurant and tent bungalows, all created by your guides. This evening, relax while the staff prepares camp and your river chefs begin the evening’s dinner. Dine at sunset on linen-clad, candlelit tables.

Meals Served: B L D

Day 3: Colorado River:

These first few days provide opportunities for extraordinary exploration. Board your raft and float deeper into Canyonlands National Park, where the magnificent scenery rivals the lower Grand Canyon. Visit ancient, haunting Pueblo ruins and petroglyphs. Some of the spectacular hikes may include seeing Native American ruins at Lathrup, a springtime waterfall at Indian Creek, or reaching the top of the Loop, where the river takes a four-mile bend onto itself, enabling you to see both sides from 1,000 feet up. Later, pull over to camp on one of the many beaches. Hike up one of the side canyons in Canyonlands National Park while camp is set up. In the evening, gaze at the spectacular star-filled sky as you relax and recount the day’s adventures with your fellow travellers.

Meals Served: B L D

Day 4: Colorado River:

Wake this morning to fresh gourmet coffee and another hearty breakfast. Soon, you are back on the river for another day of relaxing and slipping into “river time.” This afternoon, pass the confluence of the Green and Colorado rivers, where the Colorado doubles in size and force. You also get a chance to run a couple of smaller rapids before camp. By the end of the day, there is a rising sense of anticipation as the big rapids near.

Meals Served: B L D

Day 5: Colorado River:

This morning, the guides take time to teach you how to enjoy the big rapids safely. Soon, you encounter rapids with names like Capsize, North Sea’s, Little Niagara, Satan’s Gut and Ben Hurt. As you continue downstream, the rapids become more intense until you enter the Big Drops — the steepest descent on the Colorado River. You complete the day’s run and relax on a sandy beach to recount the excitement. Traditionally, the last night of the river trip is “dress-up” night. This is a great way to celebrate the near-completion of your adventure in the mighty Colorado River.

Meals Served: B L D

Day 6: Colorado River/Moab:

On the last day, view 2,000-foot cliffs and explore some lost side canyons no longer submerged under Lake Powell. You have a chance to hike up Clear Water Canyon and splash in one of its many swimming pools. Once you arrive at the take out, you are escorted up to a landing strip for the return flight to Moab. This is no ordinary flight back; this is a scenic flight over Canyonlands National Park and the river you just rafted — the perfect end to the perfect journey.

Every effort will be made to operate itineraries as planned, but alterations may occur after the final itinerary has been issued. A&K also reserves the right to withdraw a program or any part of it, to make alterations to the itinerary or the program inclusions as it deems necessary or desirable, and to pass on to tour members any costs caused by delays or events beyond its control.

Special Requests: Specific requests such as adjacent or connecting rooms, bedding requests, smoking rooms and special dietary needs should be advised at time of booking. Please note that every effort will be made to secure a special request; however, it cannot be guaranteed in advance of travel.

Prices and Arrangements: Quoted program prices include planning, handling and operational charges and are based on current rates of exchange, tariffs and taxes as of May 2010. A&K reserves the right to increase program prices to cover increased costs, tariffs, taxes and V.A.T. received after prices are published and to reflect fluctuations in foreign exchange markets. A&K is under no obligation to give a breakdown in costs involving any Escorted Group, Signature or Tailor Made program. Modification of program content to accommodate a smaller group size will not affect the published program price.

Immediate Check-in: On programs where immediate check-in has not been included in the program price, A&K has requested that all hotels provide this service when possible; however, it cannot be guaranteed. Most hotels allow check-in to take place during the mid-afternoon. Should you wish to have a guaranteed room ready for your immediate check-in upon arrival, it can be arranged for an additional charge. Please ask A&K for details and prices.

Early Arrival: A&K recommends that you arrive a day or two before the start of your planned program to allow time to relax and refresh after your journey. To help you prepare for the start of your tour, A&K has negotiated favorable overnight rates at many hotels; please ask for details at time of booking. Departing early from the U.S. and Canada during the winter months is strongly recommended, due to possible flight disruptions and cancellations caused by inclement weather.

Active Elements: Some active elements have been incorporated into select itineraries. To enjoy the trip as intended, a minimum level of fitness is required. A&K will require notice if any participant has any physical or other condition or disability that could create a hazard to him or herself or to other members of the group. A&K reserves the right to decline acceptance of anyone whom it considers unsuitable due to fitness level. A&K also reserves the right to remove from the trip, at the participant's own expense, anyone whose condition is such that it could create a hazard to him or herself or others, or otherwise impact the enjoyment of other passengers. Should you have any questions or need any clarification about a specific program, please ask for details at time of booking.

A&K's Passenger Travel Protection Plan: Our specially designed travel protection plan, which provides cancellation coverage, medical coverage and protection against lost or damaged luggage, is not included in the program price and is strongly recommended.

Child Policy: On non-family A&K escorted group programs, unless otherwise indicated on the individual tour, a minimum age of 10 years is required. On family escorted group programs, unless indicated on the individual program page in the A&K Family Holidays brochure or at abercrombiekent.com, no minimum age is required. However, some activities contained within an itinerary may have a different age restriction from the overall minimum age requirement. Details will be provided at the time of booking. Please note: A&K reserves the right to marginally exceed the published maximum group size on family programs to accommodate a family.

Passports and Visas: Valid passports are required for all international destinations. Check with your travel agent or A&K for the latest visa requirements. Please note that non-U.S. passport holders are responsible for obtaining the required documentation applicable for entry. Passports must be valid for six (6) months after the return of your journey and should also have sufficient blank pages for visas and immigrations stamps. A&K cannot be held responsible should you be denied entry to a country due to non-compliance with these requirements.
