A Week In... Bavaria, Austria and Venice

Day 1: Arrive Munich
A transfer is included from Munich Airport to the Bayerischer Hof. Join us for a welcome re­cep­tion followed by dinner at the Spatenhaus.

Day 2: Munich / Schloss Nymphenburg
Stroll around Marienplatz and through Munich’s Old Town on a walking tour; see Altes Rathaus, the rebuilt Frauenkirche, and St. Mary’s Column. After lunch, head outside Bavaria’s capital to Schloss Nymphenburg, a 17th-century villa built for the ruling Wittelsbach family. Travel the Autobahn to Salzburg.

Day 3: Salzburg, Mozart’s Baroque Hometown
The skyline of Salzburg – hometown of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and the setting for The Sound of Music – is a symphony of Baroque church towers and steeples. Take a guided walking tour through the heart of town, visiting the house where Mozart was born in 1756. Spend the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 4: Innsbruck / Bolzano / Castle Evening
Set out through the Austrian and German Alps to Innsbruck, Tyrolean host to the 1964 and 1976 Winter Olympics; check out Imperial architecture like the 28 gigantic bronze statues adorning Emperor Maximilian’s mausoleum in the Hofkirche! Drive into the Italian Alps for a two-night stay in Bolzano. Get the medieval treatment at Castel Katzenzungen; a trumpet fanfare welcomes you to this restored Renaissance-era castle overlooking Alto Adige for a reception followed by a sumptuous dinner!

Day 5: A Remarkable Day in the Dolomites
Explore the Dolomites, their sheer rock walls like sentinels against the sky. Wind your way from Bolzano to Passo Pordoi; board a cable car for breathtaking views as your gondola ascends to the summit, and visit Ortisei, a Ladin-speaking alpine resort town. Return for free time in Bolzano, where you may want to check out an exhibit featuring “Oetzi,” a 5,000-year-old naturally-preserved “iceman.”

Day 6: A Private Lago di Garda Cruise & Venice
Journey to Lago di Garda, its shores dotted with palm and citrus trees thanks to a balmy climate. Explore lakeside Limone sul Garda, enjoy lunch, and take a private boat cruise across the lake to Malcesine. It’s on to Venice for a two-night stay on the Grand Canal!

Day 7: Discover Venice, City of Canals
Begin your day in Renaissance Venice with a walking tour including Piazza San Marco, center of Venetian life over the centuries; dramatic St. Mark’s Basilica; and the Doge’s Palace, former residence of the rulers of Venice, with its famous Bridge of Sighs. Spend the rest of the day exploring as you please. Tonight, share memories of your trip at a cocktail reception followed by a farewell dinner.

Day 8: Journey Home
Tour ends: Venice. A transfer is included from Hotel Danieli to Venice’s Marco Polo Airport. Allow 3 hours for flight check-in.
