Your adventure begins with two nights in Buenos Aires, where you'll become acclimated to the local time – and culture – with Tauck. Then it's all aboard the newest of Tauck ships, Le Boreal or L'Austral, for a 10-night cruise to an arctic wonderland where the locals, from penguins and seals to myriad seabirds, welcome you ashore with friendly curiosity. Learn about their life and icy habitats from on-board naturalists who fill your days with wonder on this Antarctica cruise. And at night, enjoy informal chats, on-board lectures, documentary films and warm camaraderie with your fellow explorers, Captain and crew. Bon Voyage!

Day 1: Arrive Buenos Aires
A transfer is included upon arrival at the Buenos Aires’ (Ezeiza) Ministro Pistarini International Airport to the Hotel Caesar Park. Join us for a sightseeing tour that visits Evita Peron’s grave in Recoleta Cemetery, before returning to the hotel for our welcome reception and dinner. Live music and tango are on the menu tonight as you learn some of the basic steps of this passionate South American dance.
Overnight: Caesar Park Hotel, Buenos Aires, Argentina
Meals Included: Dinner

Day 2: City Sightseeing
Your exploration of Buenos Aires continues today. City sightseeing includes Avenue 9 de Julio, renowned as the world’s widest avenue, Plaza de Mayo, site of Argentina’s most important historical events, the Cathedral and Palermo’s garden-graced parks – here you will find Japanese and botanical gardens, a planetarium, museums, monuments and a zoo. The remainder of the day is free for you to explore on your own. Must-see sights include the city’s charming neighborhoods, from San Telmo to La Boca, where history plays out along streets lined with antique shops, decades-old restaurants and tango halls.
Overnight: Caesar Park Hotel, Buenos Aires, Argentina
Meals Included: Breakfast, lunch

Day 3: Fly to Ushuaia / M Embark Ship
Fly south along the coast of Argentina to the southernmost city in the world. Ushuaia, a frontier town located on the Tierra del Fuego Archipelago and the Beagle Channel, is also the only Argentine city that sits on the other side of the Andes. Get an overview of life at the end of the world on an afternoon sightseeing excursion that takes you up and down the hilltop streets that preside over this waterfront town and visit Tierra del Fuego National Park. Embark on your 10-night cruise to the Antarctic; the Captain and crew host an on-board briefing before dinner this evening.
Overnight: Cruising aboard Le Boreal / L'Austral
Meals Included: Breakfast, lunch, dinner

Day 4: Crossing the Drake Passage
The Drake Passage extends from the tip of South America to the Antarctic’s Shetland Islands. Throughout the centuries, explorers and whalers sailed these waters in search of the land once known only as Tierra Australis Incognita. Our team of on-board naturalists will begin their fascinating presentations on Antarctica’s wildlife, history and geographical characteristics during the voyage, spotting seabirds or possibly whales. Excitement mounts as you approach the Antarctic Convergence, a moving zone where the cold Antarctic waters from the south meet the warmer currents from the north. Enjoy the ship’s new window-walled gym and pampering spa; curl up with a book; and engage in lively conversations with your Captain and crew during your two-day crossing.

Meals Included: Breakfast, lunch, dinner

Day 6: Antarctic Archipelago Cruising
Your first sighting of the Antarctic Archipelago will be a memory to last a lifetime. Separate and distinct images of ice, sea, land and sky effortlessly blend together into a single portrait of spectacular beauty. Landings will be guided by our naturalists and lecturers. Explore the world of the fascinating (and highly entertaining) penguin, walking among them on the beaches while observing their rookeries, trails and treks into the sea for food. You’ll spot numerous seals on ice floes and along the shore. Identifying the many different species of birds at sea and on land soon becomes easy. Conditions permitting, cruise through the beautiful Lemaire Channel on the lookout for humpback whales. The main attractions of this area, however, are dramatic icebergs and unique ice formations – deep blue, light blue, green, clear, snow white – in various shapes and sizes. The sun never sets completely at this time of year. Evenings are relaxed, with a mix of lectures, informal chats with the expedition team, documentary films – or perhaps quiet time in the library reading.
