Day 1: Arrive Cairo
Warm greetings welcome you to Egypt from the moment of arrival! A transfer is included from Cairo International Airport to Mena House Oberoi. Your room, in a sumptuous former royal hunting lodge in the shadow of the Pyramids, features unparalleled views of the Pyramids.
Overnight: Mena House Oberoi, Cairo, Egypt
Meals Included: A snack in your hotel room upon late arrival

Day 2: Pyramids of Giza / Sphinx / Solar Boat
Meet our local Egyptologist before embarking on the first of your personally guided excursions to Egypt’s antiquities. Visit the Solar Boat Museum to view a 4,500-year-old cedarwood boat; explore Giza, home to the Sphinx and the Great Pyramid of Cheops. Climb atop a camel for a memorable ride* at the Pyramids! Join us for a welcome cocktail reception and dinner tonight.

Day 3: Ancient Memphis / Sakkara / Dahshur
At ancient Memphis, first capital of Egypt’s “Old Kingdom,” see the statue of Ramesses II and the Alabaster Sphinx. Trace the progress of pyramid design at Sakkara and the Royal Tombs of Dahshur; view the Step Pyramid of Djoser and explore the Teti Pyramid. As a Tauck Exclusive, go inside the private tomb of one of the site’s early mastabas. Tonight, enjoy a spectacular sound and light show at the Pyramids and the Sphinx in Giza.

Day 4: Fly to Luxor / Temples and Luxor Museum
Fly aboard our charter flight to Luxor, site of the ancient city of Thebes. The treasures of Upper Egypt highlight a guided visit to the remarkable Luxor Museum. You’ll have time to explore the town of Luxor, one of the world’s most extraordinary “open-air” museums, at leisure; its antiquities include the great temple complex of Luxor, along with many pylons, sphinxes and obelisks. Follow a sunset cocktail cruise on a felucca with dinner at your hotel, where your room overlooks the fabled River Nile.

Day 5: Valley of the Kings / Embark Nile Adventurer
View Queen Hatshepsut’s temple en route to the Valley of the Kings. Insights from our Egyptologist enrich visits to Medinet Habu and the Valley of the Queens. Settle into your cabin on the Nile Adventurer; take a private horse-drawn carriage ride through the amazing temple complex at Luxor at sunset. Join the Captain and his staff aboard Nile Adventurer for this evening’s cocktail reception featuring Egyptian wine and local beer, followed by dinner; later, belly dancers entertain aboard ship.

Day 6: Temple of Karnak / Cruise to Esna
If you wish, start your day with an early morning optional hot air balloon ride over the Valleys of the Kings and Queens (additional $175 per person). Our expert Egyptologist leads an excursion to Luxor and its Great Hypostyle Hall today. Actually composed of three main temples and several smaller ones, Luxor’s Temple of Karnak is the largest complex of its kind ever built. Later, Nile Adventurer sets off from Luxor on an exciting day spent cruising the River Nile. Glimpse life along the ancient riverbanks as the ship makes its way to Esna throughout the day, enjoying a cooking demonstration and afternoon tea. Don local attire for an “Egyptian Night” evening of entertainment and dancing.

Day 7: Esna / Edfu / Egyptian Evening
In Esna, visit the Greco-Roman Temple of Khnum; continue cruising along the Nile to Edfu to explore the well-preserved Temple of Horus and the local bazaar.

Day 8: Kom Ombo, Aswant and the Philae Temple
Walk to Kom Ombo’s unusual double temples. Cruise to Aswan; a private motorboat ferries you to Agilka Island to see the Temple of Isis at Philae and quarries that provided granite for temples and pyramids. Join us aboard ship for farewell cocktails.

Day 9: Disembark Ship / Abu Simbel / Alexandria
Disembark Nile Adventurer in Aswan and travel to Abu Simbel; visit the temples of Ramesses II and Queen Nefertari. Fly via private charter to Alexandria, where you’ll enjoy an overnight in sea-view rooms at the Four Seasons Alexandria.

Day 10: Explore Alexandria and back to Cairo

Day 11: Exploring Cairo, Past and Present / Egyptian Museum
Start the day with a lecture on modern Egypt, including insights on the sweeping political changes that occurred in 2011. Join Tauck’s Egyptologist on a special early-opening guided visit to Cairo’s Egyptian Museum, displaying treasures from King Tut’s tomb and many other priceless artifacts. Join us for a farewell dinner tonight.

Day 12: Journey Home
