Day 1: Arrive New Orleans
A transfer is included from New Orleans’ Louis Armstrong International Airport to the Hotel Monteleone. Join us for a cocktail reception at your historic hotel in the heart of the “Vieux Carré.” Our reception is followed by dinner at world-famous Brennan’s, originator of “Bananas Foster.”

Day 2: Cooking School and Mardi Gras Insider
Get to know “Nawlins” up close on a day of insider discoveries from a French Quarter walking tour to a ride along famous Canal Street. Pick up culinary secrets during a private cooking demonstration at the New Orleans School of Cooking. Explore Mardi Gras World with an insider; spend the rest of the day as you please. Join us for a private jazz experience tonight at legendary Preservation Hall.

Day 3: Natural New Orleans and Jazz Heritage
Learn about New Orleans’ unique geological environment at a presentation by an environmental expert. Meet with volunteers and community organizers on a Tauck Exclusive field trip to the Lower Ninth Ward, making a remarkable post-Katrina recovery. Visit New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park, and choose from among several legendary French Quarter restaurants for dinner.

Day 4: Acadiana at Vermilionville on the bayou
Head out along the Mississippi to “Cajun Country” for a private “Bal de Maison” house party with a home-style porch lunch, Acadian music, storytelling and fun. Step back in time on a guided visit to Vermilionville, recreating Acadian and Creole life circa 1765 to 1890. Dig into a traditional Cajun dinner in Breaux Bridge, and spend the next two nights in the heart of French Louisiana.

Day 5: Shadows-on-the-Teche and Avery Island
Continue your discovery of Cajun culture with a stop at the Jean Lafitte Acadian Cultural Center in Lafayette, then pay a guided visit to Shadows-on-the-Teche, a restored pre-Civil War town home. Travel to Avery Island, a lush salt dome “island” surrounded by bayous, and tour its famous McIlhenny TABASCO® Sauce plant.

Day 6: Atchafalaya Swamp & Back to “Nawlins”
Venture into the Atchafalaya Basin, among the largest wetlands in the United States, on a guided boat tour from Breaux Bridge. Take a scenic drive back to the “Big Easy” for a two-night stay at The Ritz-Carlton, New Orleans.

Day 7: Streetcar Tour and National WWII Museum
Board an authentic New Orleans streetcar for an exclusive tour with a local guide along Canal Street and St. Charles Avenue; explore the antiques district and the Garden District, lined with 19th-century Southern mansions. Enjoy a special visit to the acclaimed National World War II Museum; spend the afternoon as you please. Tonight, ride through the French Quarter on a horse-drawn carriage to a farewell jazz reception and dinner at legendary Arnaud’s.

Day 8: Journey Home
Tour ends: New Orleans. Fly home anytime. A transfer to Louis Armstrong International Airport is included from The Ritz-Carlton, New Orleans. Please allow a minimum of two hours for flight check-in at the airport.
